Antique Westerwald Stoneware Ewer C1900
A rare German Westerwald salt glazed pottery ewer c1900.
An elaborately decorated stoneware jug with a tall ribbed neck and two intersecting double rings, beautifully embellished in deep cobalt blue with heraldic imagery and symbols including a coat of arms, angels, florals and leaves. Westerwald pottery is a distinctive type of salt glazed grey pottery from the area of Westerwaldkreis in the Rheinland. Salt glaze has a grayish white surface with a texture like an orange peel.
